As the sun bends toward the west and the lights of the West End begin to flicker, something absolutely magical happens on the balcony of the London Palladium. Rachel Zegler, who plays the role of Evita, steps out in front of a crowd gathered on the street and sings the legendary aria "Don't Cry for Me Argentina".. No stage, curtain or tickets - just voice, story and emotion.
It is a musical tribute to Evita Perón - wife of the Argentine president, an icon of the struggle for the rights of women and working people. In the musical, as in real life, Eva sings from the balcony to the nation - winning their hearts. Summer Sundays on Clapham Common are about music, community and the joy of playing outdoors. The beloved series of free bandstand concerts - organized by the Clapham Common Management Advisory Committee and supported by Lambeth Council and Omnibus Theatre - returns in 2025.
There will be an eclectic mix of sounds on stage: From jazz and salsa, to classical, pop and choirs, to Afro-Cuban rhythms. Performances will include. Graham Pike Big Band, South London Jazz Orchestra, Crystal Palace Brass Band, Rock Choir and energy Los Domingos. Particularly exciting is the return of the Real Voices - South London-based network of local choirs, numbering more than 80 voices.
